Commit Cycle: November 1

Men

Kenny Brooks

Forward
Tri-City Storm (USHL)
6'2", 195 pounds
Las Vegas, NV
Class of 2012
DOB 12/11/1991

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM

10/28 vs. Youngstown          L 1-5  0   0   0   0 [box score]
10/29 at Des Moines           L 1-3  0   1   1   0 [box score]

Despite an early 1-0 lead against the Phantoms and despite outshooting Youngstown 43-27, Tri-City got into some penalty trouble and gave up three straight on the power play in the second period to seal their fate...Brooks had two shots and was a -2 against Youngstown (one of those was an empty-netter)...he added an assist on the Storm's only goal in its second consecutive come-from-ahead defeat against Des Moines.

David Glen

Center
Spruce Grove Saints (AJHL)
6'0", 175 pounds
Fort Saskatchewan, AB
Class of 2012

10/26 vs. Drayton Valley      W 5-4  0   2   2   0 [box score]
10/28 at Fort McMurray        L 1-2  0   0   0   0 [box score]
10/29 at Fort McMurray        W 2-1  0   1   1   0 [box score]

Glen's pair of assists, both on Nolan Huysmans goals, helped the Saints build up a 5-2 lead that was able to withstand a late Thunder rally...Friday's loss to the Oil Barons was in a shootout...Glen misfired on his turn with a chance to extend the game...the Saints turned the tables with a regulation win the next night, and Glen had an assist on the always-important first goal of the game...with a record of 15-1-3, Spruce Grove's 33 points are tied for the best in the league, and they have two games in hand on co-leader Brooks.

Luke Juha

Defenseman
Vernon Vipers (BCHL)
5'11", 180 pounds
Mississauga, ON
Class of 2012
DOB 3/9/1993

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM

10/28 at Prince George        L 2-3  0   0   0   0 [box score]

The Vipers continued their struggles, as they were downed by a mid third-period power play goal...Juha is presently in the Team Canada West selection camp, which serves as a tryout for the team that will compete at the World Junior A Challenge beginning November 7th...he competed for Team Canada East in the event last year and took home a silver medal.

Reed Linaker

Center
St. Albert Steel (AJHL)

DOB 11/4/1991

10/29 vs. Grand Prairie       L 2-4  -   -   -   - [box score]

Linaker (knee) missed his third straight week of games...the Steel continue to plod along in the North Division cellar at 3-14-2.

Curtis Loik

Forward
Penticton Vees (BCHL)
6'1", 205 pounds
North Vancouver, BC
Class of 2012
DOB 4/23/1993

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

10/29 vs. Merritt             W 5-4  -   -   -   - [box score]

Loik was absent from the Vees' overtime win in order to attend the aforementioned Canada West selection camp with Juha...the win upped the team's league-best record to 11-2-1...the WJAC selection camp wraps up today at 3:00 p.m. with a scrimmage, and final roster selections are expected shortly after.

Eamon McAdam

Goaltender
Waterloo Black Hawks (USHL)

Perkasie, PA
Class of 2013
DOB 9/24/1994

Date  Opponent               Score SA GA  Sv% GAA
--------------------------------------------------------------

10/28 at Indiana             L 0-2 28  2 .929 2.02 [box score]
10/29 at Indiana             W 4-3 --  -  --- ---  [box score]
10/30 at Muskegon            L 2-4 --  -  --- ---  [box score]

McAdam has improved his standing with the team greatly in the last couple of weeks, and while Jay Williams is still the guy who's going to get two starts in a three-game weekend, McAdam has proven more than capable of stepping in and playing well...he was a tough-luck loser against Indiana, as Jacob Fallon's first-period power play goal stood as the only score of the game until the Ice put it away early in the third period...despite the 1-2-0 weekend, the Hawks remain in first place in the Western Conference at 5-4-1.

Jonathan Milley

Right Wing
Pembroke Lumber Kings (CCHL)
6'4", 220 pounds
Ottawa, ON
Class of 2012
DOB 5/8/1991

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM
--------------------------------------------------------------

10/25 at Cumberland           W 3-1  -   -   -   - [box score]
10/29 at Ottawa               W 2-1  -   -   -   - [box score]
10/30 vs. Smiths Falls        L 0-2  -   -   -   - [box score]

Without Milley and other key players, the Lumber Kings have continued to hang around, although the points gap between Pembroke and first-place Nepean has grown to 11 points...still, if they're able to defend home ice better (just 3-6-1 at the Pembroke Memorial Centre) and get healthy at the right time, the PLK show may yet be a factor in the CCHL.

Matt Skoff

Goalie
Sioux City Musketeers (USHL)
6'0", 186 pounds
McKees Rocks, PA
DOB 7/23/1991

Following a rough couple of weeks for Skoff, he sat in favor of Austin Priebe against Dubuque...Priebe played well in spite of the loss, but Skoff was back in the next day and played as if he got the message, despite the loss...after allowing a pair of goals in the first 3:19 of the game, he made 22 straight stops to keep the Muskies in the game until he was beat by a shin-pad rebound with 6:34 left in the game...the Musketeers are now 2-7-0 for a league-worst four points.

10/29 vs. Tri-City            W 3-1  0   0   0   0 [box score]

A quiet week on the schedule for the Buccaneers, and a quiet night on the scoresheet for Varley...he took two shots of Des Moines' 43 total.

Thomas Welsh

Defenseman
Salisbury School (Prep)
6'0", 195 pounds
Toronto, ON
Class of 2013
DOB 2/1/1995

Salisbury School's schedule has not yet been released, but it will begin sometime in the vicinity of the beginning of December.

Mark Yanis

Defenseman
Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL)
6'2", 195 pounds
Grosse Pointe Woods, MI
Class of 2012
DOB 5/26/1994

Date  Opponent                Score  G   A Pts PIM

10/29 vs. Chicago             W 5-1  1   1   2   5 [box score]
10/30 vs. Waterloo            W 4-2  0   0   0   6 [box score]

Yanis finally recorded his first point of the season, although it was something of a fluke - his blast from just past center hit Chicago goalie Alex Sakellaropoulos and trickled in...understandably, the goal got Sakellaropoulos pulled from the game...he added an assist and a fight in the second period to complete the Gordie Howe hat trick in what has to be considered his best game of the season, and maybe his USHL career, to date...the next day, he was a -2 with three minor penalties, showing that he's still a work in progress...despite the two wins, the Lumberjacks remain in last place in a stacked Eastern Conference.

10/29 vs. Belle Tire          W 5-1  1   0   1   0 [box score]
10/30 vs. Milwaukee Admirals  W 8-0  2   0   2   0 [box score]
10/30 vs. Ohio Flames         W 2-1  0   0   0   4 [box score]

Holdcroft and Kern had outstanding weekends at the Tier 1 Elite League's first showcase weekend in Chicago...the Pens girls went 4-1-0 to place themselves at the top of the early standings...Kern's goal against Belle Tire (assisted by Holdcroft) was the game winner, and her pair against Milwaukee (again, both assisted by Holdcroft) helped fuel that rout...Holdcroft's goal against St. Louis was late in the first period and staked Pittsburgh out to a 2-0 lead...not that I'm one to tell Josh Brandwene how to do his job, but maybe try these two on a line together.

Emily Laurenzi

Forward
National Sports Academy (Prep)
5'5", 125 pounds
Townsend, DE
Class of 2012
DOB 1993

Laurenzi and the rest of the NSA Mountaineers enjoyed a rare weekend off - they'll return to action with the season's second set of JWHL games from November 4-6.

Celine Whitlinger

Goalie
Gilmour Academy (Prep)
5'10"
Garden Grove, CA
Class of 2012
DOB 5/20/1994

Whitlinger became known as the fourth member of the women's team's class of 2012 on October 25th...after coming up with the prestigious Anaheim Lady Ducks organization (which included appearances at the USA Hockey Tier I 16U national championships in 2010 and 2011, as well as the 14U national championships in 2008 and 2009) Whitlinger moved to Ohio and Gilmour Academy for her senior year...she did so largely because she wanted to continue to play with friend/teammate Micayla Cantanzariti...Whitlinger attended the USA Hockey Select 17 national development camp over the summer as the top goalie from the Pacific District and looks to be an outstanding get for Josh Brandwene and company.

Detailed statistics may not be available on a regular basis, but we do know that Gilmour attended the Mercyhurst Invitational from October 21st-23rd...the Lancers finished as runners-up in the showcase to Ridley College, thanks largely to Whitlinger's efforts...in five games, Gilmour was scored on just five times, and Whitlinger had two shutouts...the Lancers are 7-6-1 so far this season and are next in action November 3rd-6th for the Bauer Invite Tournament in Rochester, NY.

  1. Heard from sources that linaker isn't even injured but instead has been fighting a real bad case of mono and been trying to keep it on the down low. Have you heard anything about that?

  2. Interesting...I haven't heard anything other than what was reported in the St. Albert Gazette (knee injury). Obviously, he has a history of knee issues, so I didn't really question it. If I hear anything, I'll be sure to include it in a future post.
